  1. Every form of sexual activity demands a certain level of maturity, both in the physical sense and in terms of emotional and psychological development. At a young age, a person is in the process of constant and quite fast development, but has not yet reached the level at which she or he can safely engage in certain forms of interactions. BDSM can involve some rather intense experiences and it requires a great deal of decision making, self-awareness and certainty about one’s own wishes, desires and limits. If you enter into such interactions before your body and mind are ready, it is highly likely that these experiences may have adverse effects on your emotional, psychological, as well as physical wellbeing. Not only may you regret the choices you have made, but you may also be swayed into doing something you are not certain you will enjoy, something that may harm your organism in different ways and something that may turn into a trauma or have consequences that may be hard to handle. BDSM should be a consensual relationship between adults, one that should not be entered by individuals who are still in the process of discovering who they are and who they want to be. That is why it is important to take time to get to know yourself and if you begin to feel like you may be interested in BDSM, inform yourself about its various forms and everything it may involve. The primary concerns in BDSM are the same as in other forms of romantic and erotic relationships: being ready for it in every sense, knowing what you are getting into and finding the right partner. These requirements can normally be met only in adulthood, which is why young age should be reserved for explorations that are more theoretical in nature, in order to avoid numerous potential threats to both physical and mental health.
