  1. Yes and no – it all depends. BDSM is, indeed, a group of erotic preferences, but an actual sexual act doesn’t necessarily have to occur. Some aspects of BDSM often involve activities that are not sexual nor do they lead to a sexual outcome. For instance, bondage/discipline or dominance/submission can be pureply psychological, or physical but without sexual components. Or there might be sexual components but without actual penetration. Or there might be penetration of some sort. Some BDSM scenes, when they are played out, may lead to a “vanilla” sexual act or intercourse, and some may end then and there. Whether there is going to be penetration or not depends on what the partners want and what they are in it for. BDSM does not exclude penetration (after all, it is an erotic/sexual practice) but it doesn’t necessarily involve it either.
