How do Judeo-Christian religions view BDSM?

Questions

I’m very religious, and recently found out that I really enjoy some BDSM play and it makes me feel dirty sometimes because I’m not sure if it’s a sin. Can you, please, tell me something about the attitude church has about BDSM! I’ve read the Bible, and it seems like it’s ok, but I’m still a bit confused.

  1. Sacred books don’t mention BDSM specifically nor how we should think about it. Although BDSM isn’t discussed directly, all religions have certain beliefs, even instructions when it comes to relationships between men and women. From a religious point of view, sex is a way human species reproduces, and it’s necessary for that matter. However, it should only be consumed when protected by sanctity of a marriage. However, once two people are joined in a holy matrimony, they don’t have to worry about their sex life. Both Judaism and Christianity agree that what happens in “marriage bed” is left to privacy of the spouses. As long as two heterosexual people are married, the repertoire of their sexual activities is only and exclusively their business. One more thing – consent. Everything is permitted in the marriage bed as long as both partners agree with it and do it willingly. Since this is the essence of BDSM too, there shouldn’t be any violations of religion when married couples practice BDSM activities. Role-playing, leather costumes and a little bit of bondage isn’t forbidden if both sides enjoy it.
