My partner and I would like to spice up our sex life with BDSM, but we aren’t sure who should play which role. Is being passive the same as being submissive?

  1. In gay relationships, men can be passive, active or versatile. Passive gay men can also be called “receivers” whereas active gay men are known as “givers”. Being versatile means that a gay man is both passive and active. Passive and active gay people don’t have to be into BDSM at all. However, if they are, submissive gay men are those who crave to be dominated and find pleasure in obeying. They can be both passive and active in a sexual intercourse, but they’ll always follow the orders of the dominant partner. If a dominant gay person prefers to be passive during sex, then he can demand from his sub to be active. Therefore, being passive and being submissive isn’t the same.
