  1. Soft limits are generally more flexible than hard limits. For example, a person may impose a hard limit on knives, meaning using knives during scenes and plays is out of the question, and everyone involved will respect that limitation. Soft limits, on the other hand, are more flexible. It’s usually something you are not sure you want, but may or may not change your mind about. For example, suspension. You don’t really want to be suspended by ropes in a dungeon, but it’s not completely out of the question and you still might give your consent on it, under certain circumstances. Soft limits usually apply to actions that are somewhat risky, but still appealing. Just like hard limits, soft limits need to be discussed in great detail with the partner or other participants in the scene.
